Mental health peer support group launches in Whitley Bay

Two new peer support groups have launched in Tyneside for people living with depression and related mental health issues, including a weekly North Tyneside session.  PeerTalk is a registered charity which runs sessions across the country.

  • Whitley Bay session, every Wednesday, 7pm to 8.30pm at The Big Local, 305 Whitley Road, Whitley Bay, NE26 2HU
  • Whickham session, every Thursday, 7pm to 8.30pm at Whickham Library, 9 St Mary’s Green, Whickham, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE16 4DN

The peer support group is run by trained volunteer facilitators.  The strength of these groups is that the support comes from others who know the experience of mental / emotional distress and overwhelm.  They are well placed to offer empathy, support, and practical suggestions that might help others.

PeerTalk volunteers are trained to signpost those who come along to further support should this be necessary and safeguarding and confidentiality policies are in place to protect the interests of those who attend.

There’s no need to book or to be referred, anyone who feels these sessions may help can come along and share as little or as much as they want to in a friendly and confidential space.
