Beacon Films is a team of filmmakers and musicians with learning disabilities, autism and additional needs, and one of the official BFI Film Academy partners. Its work has received over 100 international festival screenings around the world and has been described as “very funny” by Mark Kermode, “unique” by Lauren Laverne and “imaginative and beautiful” by Mark Ratcliffe of BBC Radio 6 Music.

The team at Beacon Films are inviting people to their annual celebration of outstanding films and performances.

This year, they will be presenting their very first ever musical, “Car-e-Oke” about a garage mechanic’s seemingly hopeless pipedream to become a famous singer. In addition to some examples of commissioned work, Beacon Films will also be premiering three films made through a mixture of animation and live action that tell the true story of Grace Darling: the young woman who braved a storm to rescue passengers from a stricken ship. This will include – of course – a live performance of the films’ score!

The premiere is also the chance to find out about the new services offered by Beacon Film’s talented filmmaking team including:

  • Workshops in how to make films using smartphones and tablets
  • Filmmaking: from 60 second stings promoting what you do, to more in-depth productions for a range of purposes and audiences.
  • You can find out more about these services at www.beaconfilms.org.uk/hireus
