KAYAKs, Taking Time to Train

The Kids and Young Adults Klub – or KAYAKS as they prefer to be known – is a weekend support group based in South Tyneside. Provided by a dedicated team of volunteers, The KAYAKS provide a wide range of fun and recreational activities for children, teenagers and young adults who have special needs, as well as practical help, support and advice for parents and carers. Having undertaken a number of VODA’s training courses, board member Helen Wallace told us about how important keeping it is to take time to train: “We take the training and development of our members and trustees very seriously and we make sure anyone new goes through the necessary training. We found VODA’s bespoke training on the roles and responsibilities of Management Committees invaluable for improving our overall governance. We’ve also attended courses on branding and marketing, which has definitely helped us to promote the services we offer. Training is an ongoing need and we’ve always found VODA’s courses to be both affordable and of a high standard so we really do see it as an investment.”
