Some charities now eligible for Coronavirus Small Business Grant Scheme

If you’re a registered charity with premises registered for business rates in North Tyneside and have had your income adversely affected by the current lockdown conditions you may able to apply for a grant up to £10,000 (£25,000 in exceptional circumstances). VODA has received feedback from a number of local charities who’ve been successful in applying to this scheme including sports clubs with clubhouses, community centres, village halls with a communal hall and/or cafe and charities running shops and others with communal leisure spaces

North Tyneside Council (who administer the fund on behalf of government) are being very flexible and exercising their discretion to award grants to a number of smaller charities (as well as businesses) so it is well worth an application if you think you fit the criteria. No deadline has been given but our advice is to get an application in sooner rather than later as the fund is not unlimited

You can apply for these grants here.

For those charities which currently claim Charitable Rate Relief (as opposed to Small Business Rate Relief) and therefore currently can’t apply to the scheme above, the Government has just announced a new Discretionary Grants Scheme which will be open shortly to charities currently claiming Charitable Rate Relief. This fund opens on 5 June and closes on 26 June. Please read here for more information.
