North East Mayor Kim McGuinness has launched the next round of her £1m Opportunity Fund, to take place this summer. More than 30 community projects have already benefited from the first round of funding, aimed at projects to bring people together, tackle poverty, and create opportunity for others.
Grassroots organisations across the North East have delivered rewilding projects, community clean-ups, affordable meals, art therapy, and outings for young people thanks to the fund, described as ‘a lifeline’ for the region’s most in need.
Bids are now open for the second round, where grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 are available for organisations (with an income of under £500K) rooted in or supporting residents in priority neighbourhoods as identified by the Independent Commission on Neighbourhoods (ICON). In North Tyneside, Percy Main has been identified as a priority neighbourhood.
The fund closes for applications on Monday, 7th July at midnight.
There will also be two further rounds of the Mayor’s Opportunity Fund in 2026.
