North Tyneside community encouraged to continue twice-weekly lateral flow testing

It is still possible to catch and spread COVID-19, even if you are fully vaccinated. As COVID-19 is going to be a feature of our lives for the foreseeable future, we need to learn to live with it and manage the risk to ourselves and others. Around 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 do not have any symptoms. This means they could be spreading the virus without knowing it.

Everyone in North Tyneside without symptoms is still being encouraged to continue the habit of twice-weekly testing using lateral flow tests.

We’re asking all our voluntary and community sector colleagues to help reinforce this message. Please promote this message through your organisation, groups and to your communities.

Everyone in the borough can still access FREE tests via a variety of ways as below.

  • Pharmacy collect: Free tests can be picked up from most pharmacies across North Tyneside. NHS England’s site finder allows you to search pharmacies near you that offer Pharmacy Collect.
  • Postal kits – LFD Direct: You can order a box of tests online or through 119, which will be delivered to your home.

Regular rapid lateral flow testing is also a good idea to help manage periods of risk such as after close contact with others in a higher risk environment, or before spending prolonged time with a more vulnerable individual.

PCR testing also remains available for everyone in the borough with symptoms. If you have symptoms (a continuous cough, high temperate or loss/change to your sense of smell or taste), you should self-isolate and book a test at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.

Support is available for anyone who tests positive and must self-isolate and is unable to call on family and friends to help. Contact the COVID-19 support hub Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm on 0345 2000 101 or contact.us@northtyneside.gov.uk.
