North Tyneside Council closes care homes to non-essential visitors

Over the last two weeks North Tyneside has seen 79 new cases of COVID-19, predominately in the 18 to 35 year age group. However with community transmission, this is likely to spread to older and more vulnerable residents.

North Tyneside Council has taken the difficult decision to close care homes in the borough to non-essential visitors (essential visitors include health care workers and for people who are receiving end of life care).

“This is not a decision that has been taken lightly, but one that places the health and safety of some of our most vulnerable and elderly residents at its heart.”  Wendy Burke, Director of Public Health.

Residents are encouraged to adhere to the guidelines in place, ensure social distancing, wear face coverings where possible, maintain good hand hygiene and good respiratory hygiene (Catch It, Bin It, Kill It).

Please see the video from Wendy Burke for more details.
