North Tyneside Recovery College Worker

£23,419 per annum pro rata for 22.5 hours/week (FTE 0.61)

North Tyneside Voluntary Organisations Development Agency (VODA) has been successful in securing funding from North Tyneside CCG to establish a successful and sustainable Recovery College for North Tyneside. We are looking to employ a part-time Recovery College Worker to drive this initiative forward.

This role will involve establishing and managing a Recovery College providing a range of courses designed to support mental wellbeing. The College will be:

  • co-designed and delivered by people with personal and professional experience of mental health issues
  • open to everyone, free of charge (including family members, carers and professionals)
  • different from but complimentary to existing support provided by professional-led treatment services

The Recovery College model has been in existence for over 10 years, with the first ever college established in the London Boroughs of Merton and Sutton in 2009. There are now over 75 Recovery Colleges established in the UK and in other parts of the world including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, the Republic of Ireland, Scandinavia and Western Europe.

To be considered for this post you must be able to demonstrate supporting and empowering individuals, focusing on their strengths and potential rather than their medical diagnosis, have experience of working with volunteers and show experience of developing and sustaining effective multi-agency partnerships, managing and evaluating projects and designing and delivering successful training courses.

An understanding and commitment to partnership working is essential as is knowledge of the multiple causes and effects of mental ill-health. Your excellent management skills will be complemented by first class communication skills that will include active listening to understand the individual’s aspirations and needs.
