The Cedarwood Trust has opportunities for volunteers in its new Subscription Supermarket, called NOURISH.
NOURISH is not a food bank, nor is it a normal food shop. It's a 'Food Membership Scheme' where, once you're a member (£1 to join, only one member per household, no other restrictions), for a £4 weekly subscription you can get food / goods that have a value of over £15. You can only shop once a week, but you don't have to shop every week.
We are seeking volunteers to help in the shop and the warehouse at Cedarwood Trust. We will be open 09:30-14:30 Mon-Fri, but you don't have to volunteer every day. Your duties would rotate between serving in the shop and maintaining stock levels, so your day would be quite varied. You'll be part of a busy, bustling community centre, and helping out in a new initiative that will bring fair access to food to all.
Main Tasks and Activities
After a quick team meeting, and ensuring everything is ready for the store opening at 10am. Volunteers would usually process any membership applications, answer any questions from customers, serve the customers, handle cash, make sure that shelves are kept full, and ensure that the shop is kept, clean safe and tidy. Once the store is closed at 2p.m. then restocking in preparation for the next day takes place.
Training and development and ongoing mentoring and support, ensures that you are fully prepared for the role. You’ll get the chance to learn customer service skills, logistics, and be part of a team.
About The Cedarwood Trust
The Cedarwood Trust is a community development charity working on the Meadow Well Estate of North Tyneside a community full of untapped energy and creativity which is hampered by the levels of poverty and income deprivation it experiences. We believe that the community have the resources themselves to make a lasting difference and we work to raise confidences and aspirations in order to change lives.
Much of our work is focused upon those experiencing the highest levels of poverty including over 60’s and young families.
The Meadow Well Estate is often seen, from the outside, in negative terms, particularly relating to income deprivation and poverty – these are major challenges for us all at the Cedarwood Trust but we aim to also celebrate all that is good within the Meadow Well Estate.
We work together to make our cause known, to reach out to other groups who share our vision. Whether you’re ready to lend a hand at one of our activities or have photos or articles to share about a recent event, here’s the place to do it.
The Cedarwood Trust is a company limited by guarantee and its governing document is its memorandum and articles of association.
The company is a company limited by guarantee not having a share capital, registered number 4855747 (England and Wales). It is a registered charity, the number being 1100530.
