About Healthwatch North Tyneside

We are the independent voice for users of health and social care services. We provide information so they can access services, listen to people’s views and experiences, hear feedback about services and work with service providers and commissioners to better respond to people’s needs.

We are a small local charity with a commitment to improving local health and social care services.


What are we looking for?

We are looking for new volunteers to join our board of trustees. As a trustee you will play a vital role in setting our direction, overseeing our work and working with health and social care providers to improve services.

We want to hear from anyone who wants to make a real difference to people’s lives in North Tyneside. We are looking for at least three people to join our trustees, including someone to be our treasurer.

We are actively encouraging applications from people in under-represented groups, to help shape a culture that supports and engages everyone.

You should have the skills and experiences to help us deliver our aims, and at least 3 hours a month available to contribute.

Trustees are expected to commit to three voluntary hours per month to:

  • Attend monthly board meetings, other committee meetings, groups and training.
  • Prepare for meetings and respond to communications.
  • Attend occasional external meetings and events, representing Healthwatch.

About Healthwatch North Tyneside

Healthwatch North Tyneside Is the local independent voice for people using local health and social care services in North Tyneside.

Healthwatch talks to users of local NHS and social care services to hear about their views and experiences. It identifies what’s working well and what could be done better so that services can improve. Healthwatch North Tyneside is here to:
Listen to your views and gather feedback about health and social care services
Provide information and signposting so that you get the support you need
Improve the quality of services by making sure service providers and decision makers listen to your views and make services better
Encourage people running services to involve local people in changes to care.

What skills do I need?

We want to hear from anyone who wants to make a real difference to people’s lives in North Tyneside.

Our trustees oversee our work and help represent the voice of local people at key meetings with decision makers. They are from a variety of backgrounds, some from roles within health and social care services, others as service users, all bring an understanding of our local community.

We are looking for at least three people to join our trustees, including someone to be our treasurer.

We are actively encouraging applications from people in under-represented groups, to help shape a culture that supports and engages everyone.

Skills

Good communication skills with an ability to engage with a range of people.

•Ability to discuss and consider complex issues.

•A willingness to work to influence policy to bring about change.

•Good relationship skills with ability to act on behalf of others and to motivate people to achieve change.


Knowledge

•Awareness of current local and national health and social care issues,with an understanding of the role of relevant public bodies and how public engagement can influence them.

•Ability to use basic information technology such as email and Zoom and an appreciation of the opportunities it offers for Healthwatch North Tyneside.


Experience

•Experience of local health or social care services as a user, or as a carer of someone who has used services, or through employment.

•Experience of complex organisations, in whatever way, leading to an understanding of how they work and can be influenced.
