Trustee SOS – Cullercoats Watch House needs your help NOW

Q: What do Dolphin spotting, story telling, wedding reception hosting and local history all have in common?

A: They’re all activities (& more) that could be happening on a regular basis at the Watch House with a little bit of help from you

Ever walked past and thought Wow – what a fantastically distinctive building, dripping with local history – I’d love to see it properly open as a thriving community venue and see peoples eyes light up as they get the same view out the windows that those watching for the return of their friends and families fishing boats did when the building first opened in 1879?

If you really want to make a big difference to your local community and help make this happen – then now’s your chance – the potential for what this building could be offering is enormous

The existing trustees have already embarked upon an ambitious plan for the restoration of the building into the inspiring community venue it’s crying out to be, gaining feedback from the local community on what activities they’d like to see offered and achieving funding for a condition survey and heritage statement from a listed heritage architect (it’s a Grade II listed building) which sets out what work needs to be done to get the building back to it’s original state while bringing it up to the standards of modern usage.

We’re now going to need support from people who can bring a variety of skills and experience to the table to help us move on to the next stage in gaining the funding needed and steadily bringing in more user groups so the maximum amount of local people (& visitors from farther afield) can enjoy what this magnificent local landmark can offer to its local community.

The future’s bright – but we need your help to make it happen and we’re going to need doers with the proper skills and experience to do so.

About Cullercoats Watch House

The Watch House is an iconic Grade II listed building in the heart of Cullercoats Village. It was built as a lookout for the Cullercoats Volunteer Life Brigade in 1879 to watch for vessels in distress. These days it is a small community centre for the local community to hire at a modest cost.
