North Tyneside Council’s Sport North Tyneside team organises inclusive and disability-specific sporting opportunities for both disabled and non-disabled people to take part.
These include archery, badminton, boccia, football, multi-sport, sign and splash, trampoline and rebound therapy. There are also free ‘No Limits’ sessions during term time for ages up to 16, where young people with a disability (siblings are welcome too) can try lots of different activities with qualified coaches, or simply relax in our multi-sensory room.
Swimmers with additional needs are very welcome to come for a swim at any time; there are also extra sessions for swimmers with additional needs. All North Tyneside Council swimming pools have poolside hoists which a member of staff will operate for you. View the programme online.
In addition, if you have a hearing-impaired child aged 4-10, The Lakeside Centre in Killingworth runs swimming lessons with a BSL interpreter working alongside the instructor. Call (0191) 643 4177 for details, the next block of lessons starts after half term.
