Groundwork is working alongside the Bupa Foundation to deliver the Green Community Grants programme for a third year. The initiative is part of Bupa’s Healthy Cities campaign and supports practical projects which help both people and planet health through grants of up to £2,000.
What projects can be funded?
Green Community Grants is open to all non-fee paying schools, registered charities, not-for-profit organisations, local authorities and social housing providers across the UK, Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands. Priority will be given to the regeneration of green spaces in or close to cities for community use. Examples include:
- Improving green spaces for community activities to improve wellbeing
- Tree planting to improve air quality and biodiversity
- A school wanting to create an outdoor classroom, forest school or natural playground
- A community group that would like to create or improve an allotment to be more sustainable and healthy
- Creation or adaptation of a green space to make it more accessible
- Creation of a ‘pocket park’, bringing more greenery into cities for wellbeing
This is not an exhaustive list, and other project ideas are welcome.
Do you need match funding?
Bupa Foundation Green Community Grants can fund up to 100% of your project costs, so you do not need to have any match funding. However, if you secure additional funding, there is no limit to what this amount can be and any funding awarded by Bupa Foundation can form part of your wider project costs.
Who is eligible to apply?
Grants can be awarded to non-fee paying schools, registered charities, not-for-profit organisations, local authorities and social housing providers in the UK, Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands.
Applications are not eligible from:
- Individuals
- Community Interest Companies with shares (CICs)
- Community Interest Companies with guarantee that are less than two years old
- Profit-making organisations
- Private, fee-paying schools
Ineligible projects:
- Work that has already taken place
- Research projects
- Political donations
- Fundraising activities or challenges (such as costs for a skydive)
- Running costs and organisation overheads
- Conferences or seminars
- Activities which collect funds for redistributing to other charities or individuals
- Overseas appeals
- Expeditions or overseas travel
- Promotion of a religious or political cause
- Marketing promotions
- Projects or activities that the state has a legal obligation to provide
