Funding to Support Healthier Communities and Environments
The Bupa Foundation Green Community Grants have returned for a fourth year. The scheme offers grants between £500 and £2,000 for projects that support both community wellbeing and environmental health.
The programme is open to non-fee-paying schools, registered charities, not-for-profit organisations, local authorities and social housing providers. Applicants can apply from across the UK, the Channel Islands and the Republic of Ireland.
Focus on Urban Green Space and Areas of Need
This year, the fund prioritises projects that improve or create green spaces in urban areas. Key locations include London, Staines, Brighton, Leeds, Greater Manchester—particularly Salford—Dublin and Glasgow.
The scheme also focuses on areas with the greatest need. Projects in the top 20% most deprived communities, based on Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) data, will receive priority.
Organisations that have not previously received a Bupa Foundation Green Community Grant are especially encouraged to apply.
Projects That Make a Difference
Applicants must clearly show how their project improves both people’s health and the health of the planet.
The fund supports a wide range of practical projects. These include improving community gardens, creating accessible green spaces, and developing outdoor classrooms or forest school areas. Groups can also apply for funding to plant trees and flowers to boost biodiversity and air quality.
Other eligible ideas include installing green walls, creating natural play areas, and developing community food-growing spaces. Projects that reduce flooding or increase access to green areas are also welcome. Pocket parks and small urban green spaces can help improve wellbeing and bring nature into communities.
Key Dates and Application Details
All projects must finish by the end of April 2027. Groundwork UK administers the scheme on behalf of the Bupa Foundation.
The programme expects to fund around 175 projects this year. The team will confirm funding decisions by the end of September 2026.
