Football Foundation – Lionesses HERe to Play Fund

The Lionesses HERe to Play Fund supports the creation of safe, welcoming and inclusive grassroots football facilities for women and girls across England. Backed by the Lionesses, The FA, the Premier League and the UK Government, the fund aims to grow female access and participation in the sport.

What the Fund Supports

Funding can be used for improvements such as:

  • Changing rooms, toilets, showers, breastfeeding and baby‑change areas
  • Covered outdoor spaces, lighting, signage and CCTV
  • Facilities designed to help women and girls feel safe, welcome and able to thrive

Grant Size & Match Funding

  • Grants range from £1,500 to £25,000
  • Up to 75% of project costs can be funded
  • Applicants must contribute at least 25% match funding

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants include not‑for‑profit football clubs, voluntary organisations, local authorities, County FAs, professional club community organisations, educational settings (with community access), registered charities, CICs, social enterprises and companies limited by guarantee.

Key Conditions

  • Applicants must have a women’s and girls’ development plan for their site
  • Engagement with The FA’s Equal Game programme is required
  • Building‑related projects need at least 5 years’ security of tenure
  • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis (no fixed deadline)
