Historic England: Neighbourhood Heritage Grants

Historic England has launched the Neighbourhood Heritage: Grants for Communities programme, offering grants of up to £15,000 to support community-led projects that use local heritage to help shape the future of neighbourhoods and places.

A total of 21 grants are available for projects that enable communities to explore and celebrate what they value about their local heritage, strengthen local voices, and support community-led placemaking and regeneration.

Historic England is particularly keen to support projects involving communities that are underrepresented in heritage and local decision-making. Applications are welcomed from both heritage and non-heritage organisations with strong links to their local communities.

Eligible projects must be co-created with local people, take place within areas classified as IMD 1-3, and work with underrepresented groups, including:

  • Communities experiencing socio-economic disadvantage
  • People less likely to participate in heritage activities
  • Minority ethnic communities
  • Disabled people
  • Neurodivergent people
  • LGBTQ+ communities
  • Communities facing barriers to participation in planning, regeneration, or civic processes

Projects must be delivered between February 2027 and August 2028.

Applications close at 11.59pm on Friday 27 November 2026 and should be submitted by email to neighbourhood.heritage.grants@historicengland.org.uk.
