Ballinger Charitable Trust

The Ballinger Charitable Trust provides funding to charitable organisations, community interest companies, and local groups based in North‑East England. Its grants support projects that benefit young people, older people, and communities experiencing disadvantage, helping to improve wellbeing, development, and access to opportunities.

Grant amounts
Grants typically range from £10,000 to £20,000 per year, often awarded over two to three years. Smaller start‑up or volunteer-led groups may receive micro‑grants up to around £1,000. The Trust also considers larger grants for significant projects depending on need and impact.

Funding can cover core or running costs, specific project activities, or capital needs such as equipment or facilities. Trustees make funding decisions on a rolling basis, meeting quarterly to review applications.

The Trust prioritises organisations delivering long‑term, open‑access services, including support for children and young people up to age 19 (or 25 for those with special educational needs), as well as older adults. Many grants aim to strengthen grassroots community groups and build sustainable local impact.
