Celebrate Trustees’ Week: Resources for Aspiring Trustees

Help, support, advice, guidance signpost in black & white

This Trustees’ Week (4-8 November) is a time to come together and celebrate the achievements of the trustees across North Tyneside and indeed the rest of the UK. Trustees play a vital role in shaping the future of our communities by guiding charitable organisations and ensuring they operate effectively and ethically. To celebrate Trustees’ Week, we are encouraging more people to become trustees. To support this, here are five valuable resources from VODA that can help new or aspiring trustees:

1. Understand Your Role

Do you want to know what’s expected of you before you become a Trustee? Our free online training session – An Introduction to Good Governance – will give an overview of your responsibilities under an hour.

2. Stay Informed with Our Blog

Keeping up to date with relevant developments in practice and law is essential for every trustee. VODA publishes a new Governance Blog every three weeks alongside our ebulletin, so you can stay informed. If you haven’t already, sign up to receive our ebulletin here: Sign Up Here. You can also access our back catalogue of Governance Blogs here.

3. Know Your Key Responsibilities

Are you unsure about the differences between the Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer roles? You can read guidance notes on these three key roles on our website here.

4. Master Your Governing Document

Getting to grips with your organisation’s governing document early on will equip you for your role as a trustee. To help with this, we have developed a free online training session – Getting to Grips with Your Charity Governing Document.

5. Join Our Free Training Sessions

Did you know that VODA offers free in-person training for aspiring or existing trustees? Our informal sessions last around two hours and cover the roles and responsibilities of a trustee, along with interactive activities and the chance to ask questions. Our next session is on 28th November, and you can book your free place here.

Becoming a trustee is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in your community. We encourage you to explore these resources and consider taking the next step towards becoming a trustee.
