Children in Need Core Costs Funding

BBC Children in Need’s Core Costs stream supports the essential day‑to‑day running costs that help charities operate effectively. This includes management, HR, office expenses, finance, governance, communications, and monitoring.

Who Can Apply?

  • Not‑for‑profit organisations working with children and young people aged 18 and under
  • Based in the UK, Isle of Man or Channel Islands
  • Annual turnover under £1 million
  • One grant at a time per organisation
  • Grants up to three years, maximum £40,000 per year (most grants are smaller)
  • Applications over £15,000 per year require registration with the appropriate regulator
  • BBC Children in Need does not fund statutory services, educational institutions, religious promotion, capital work, individuals, political activity, or retrospective costs

When to Apply

There are no application deadlines – apply at any time. Work cannot start until after a decision is made, and successful applicants must begin spending their grant within 12 months.

How to Apply

The first step is to speak with your local grants team, then complete an Expression of Interest form through your online account when the stream is open.
