Children’s Alliance Grants for Water‑Based Projects

The Children’s Alliance is offering grants of up to £15,000 (most around £5,000) to support non‑profit organisations delivering water‑based activities that improve children’s physical and mental wellbeing.

The fund is open to schools, registered charities, CICs and community groups across the UK and aims to help disadvantaged children under 18 access swimming lessons, hydrotherapy, surf therapy, water play, and other aquatic activities. Projects must show measurable impact in confidence, competence and cognition – the “3Cs” of swimming development.

Previously funded organisations include the Leigh Trust, Dame Vera Lynn Charity, The Wave Project, Access Sport and We Are Beams.

Eligibility Criteria

Projects must:

  • Support children under 18 who lack access to water-based activities due to financial barriers
  • Be delivered by a non-profit organisation (schools, charities, CICs or community groups)
  • Provide water-related sessions such as swimming, hydrotherapy or other aquatic activities
  • Demonstrate measurable outcomes for children’s wellbeing
  • Have a safeguarding policy and organisational bank account
  • Offer value for money
  • Agree to share project success stories and photographs for publicity

Retrospective funding is not available.
