Groundwork Grassroots Grants

Flexible funding for small community organisations

The Grassroots Grants programme offers unrestricted grants of £500–£2,000 to small, local organisations in England. Funding is open to voluntary and community groups, small charities, and eligible Community Interest Companies with an annual income of £25,000 or less.

This funding is designed to support organisations making a real difference in their neighbourhoods, especially those working with communities experiencing deprivation or supporting marginalised or vulnerable people.

This programme is for small organisations that:

  • Have an annual turnover of £25,000 or less

  • Provide services or activities that benefit local people

Priority will be given to organisations that:

  • Work in areas ranked within the top 15% most deprived in England
  • Support people who are marginalised or vulnerable

Only one application per organisation is permitted.

  • Core running costs (rent, utilities, administration)
  • Salaries, staff costs or volunteer expenses
  • Equipment or materials
  • Training or capacity‑building
  • Activities that support community wellbeing, access to essentials, green space improvements, cultural projects, or volunteering

Sports or physical‑activity‑based projects are not eligible under this programme.
