Rowntree’s Free the Fund Community Grant Programme

Groundwork and Rowntree’s have launched the latest round of the Free the Fund Community Grant Programme, offering up to £10,000 for community projects that boost adult wellbeing through local activities and shared experiences.

The programme will back four community projects across the UK and Ireland. Organisations can apply for funding to run summer activities for adults aged 21–65, including:

  • Improving or transforming outdoor spaces
  • Hosting arts or cultural events
  • Running sports, fitness, music or creative sessions
  • Buying equipment for community use

Projects must finish by September 2026.

The fund will not support school‑based projects, healthy‑eating initiatives, overseas activities, running costs, or work that has already taken place.

Who Can Apply

The programme is open to:

  • Registered charities
  • Not‑for‑profit organisations in the UK and Ireland

Groundwork will not accept applications from individuals, local authorities, schools, profit‑making organisations, unconstituted groups or CICs with shares. CICs limited by guarantee must be at least two years old.

Deadline

  • Applications close: 5pm, Tuesday 31 March 2026

How to Apply

Applicants must complete an online eligibility checker on Groundwork’s website. Eligible organisations will then be given access to the full application form.
