The Brian Roycroft Fund

The Brian Roycroft Fund

The Brian Roycroft Fund provides financial support to care leavers aged 18-25 from or living in Tyne and Wear and Northumberland, helping them achieve their aspirations as they transition to adult life.

Funding Available

Grants of up to £1,000 (though most grants are smaller) to help care leavers with exceptional or difficult costs.

What the Fund Supports

Grants help care leavers to:

  • Move into settled, safe accommodation
  • Enter further or higher education
  • Find satisfying employment
  • Achieve good health and positive wellbeing

Previous grants have helped young people:

  • Take driving lessons and tests to become more independent
  • Publish poetry booklets to help with mental health
  • Complete vocational training courses to improve job prospects
  • Attend sports or activities to support personal development

Who Can Apply

Applications must be made by statutory agencies or voluntary and community organisations on behalf of a care leaver. Young people cannot apply directly.

Eligibility:

  • Care leavers aged 18-25
  • From or living in Gateshead, Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, or Sunderland
  • Young people from outside the area studying at Further or Higher Education institutions in the region are eligible

Applications are especially welcomed on behalf of disabled young people, unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, and care leavers in the youth justice system.

Application Process

Grants are provided where there is evidence of hardship and no other alternatives for support. Requests should be additional to local authority responsibilities.

Applications can be submitted at any time. The panel meets twice yearly in April and October.
