The Grocers’ Charity

The Grocers’ Charity provides one‑off grants to UK‑registered charities working to improve the lives of people and communities facing disadvantage. Grants are typically up to £5,000, awarded at the discretion of the trustees.

What the Charity Funds

The Grocers’ Charity supports UK‑registered charities working in the following areas:

  • Relief of hardship: Training, improved facilities, parenting support and services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, including those affected by domestic abuse.
  • Children and young people: Projects that build confidence, skills and wellbeing through participation, peer support and group activities.
  • Older people: Initiatives that reduce loneliness, support social connection and improve daily living or independence.
  • Disability and inclusion: Work that removes barriers to participation and provides frontline support for disabled people.
  • Health: Ethical medical research, equipment that directly supports people with medical conditions and projects that promote wellbeing or mental health.
  • Military: Programmes that improve education, employment and wellbeing for serving and former military personnel and their families.
  • Arts: Opportunities and skills development for artists facing financial or access barriers, and projects engaging marginalised communities in arts and culture.
  • Heritage: Conservation of historic buildings (excluding places of worship) and preservation of significant objects or artworks.
  • Environment and conservation: Work that protects habitats and biodiversity, encourages sustainable behaviours and addresses pollution or climate change.

Eligibility

The Charity accepts applications from:

  • UK‑registered charities with an annual turnover under £500,000
  • Medical charities with an income below £15 million

Grant Amounts

  • One‑off grants are usually up to £5,000
  • Funding decisions are made at the discretion of the trustees

Deadline

The closing date for applications is 1 September 2026.
