The Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust is inviting applications from registered charities for grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 to support animal welfare projects in the UK and overseas.
Funding is available for projects and activities that benefit and protect animals, relieve animal suffering, support wildlife conservation, or promote a greater understanding of animals. Grants can be used towards both revenue and capital costs.
The programme supports a wide range of activities, including:
- Rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of domestic, wild and exotic animals.
- Direct protection of endangered species.
- Feeding, capturing, neutering and releasing feral cats and dogs.
- Veterinary and neutering costs for animals owned by people on low incomes.
- The purchase or improvement of property and fixed buildings used by charities, subject to eligibility criteria.
To be eligible, organisations must be registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, or the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, and have been registered for at least 12 months at the time of application.

The Trust accepts applications three times each year, with deadlines on:
- 1 December (Spring meeting)
- 1 April (Summer meeting)
- 1 August (Winter meeting)
Funding decisions are usually made within four months of the application deadline.
