W. G. Edwards Charitable Foundation

The W.G. Edwards Charitable Foundation provides grants to UK-registered charities working to improve quality of life for people aged 65 and over. Funding is available for capital items and community-based activities that support older people’s wellbeing and independence.

Eligibility

  • Applications must come from UK-registered charities.
  • Projects must directly benefit people aged 65+.
  • The Foundation funds capital costs (such as refurbishment, furniture and equipment) and community or wellbeing activities.
  • It does not fund salaries, general running costs or feasibility studies.
  • Successful applicants usually receive grants in the region of £1,000–£1,500.

What can be funded

Eligible costs include:

  • Refurbishment of residential care facilities or community spaces used by older people.
  • Furniture, fixtures, fittings or equipment that improves comfort, accessibility or wellbeing.
  • Community projects such as social activity groups, exercise, gardening, arts, therapy or other initiatives that support physical or mental wellbeing.
  • Items or work that can demonstrate clear and measurable benefit to older people.

How to apply

Charities must complete the application form available on the Foundation’s website, or submit their own Word/PDF application (up to four pages).

Deadlines

The next application window is 8 to 12 December 2025.

Applications received in this window will be considered at the January 2026 meeting, with payments issued by the end of February 2026.

Further rounds take place quarterly in January, April, July and October.

Charities planning capital improvements or community activities for older people are encouraged to review the full guidance on the W.G. Edwards Charitable Foundation website and submit an application before the deadline.
