Community Foundation: REEDS Grassroots Fund

The Reeds Grassroots Fund supports projects in Tyne and Wear and Northumberland that improve mental health and tackle disadvantage and inequalities limiting life chances, particularly for children and disadvantaged communities.

Funding Available

Grants of up to £3,000 are available for projects in areas of high deprivation.

Priority Areas

Mental Health Support

  • Activities focusing on improved mental health for children, young people, and disadvantaged adults
  • Projects that build children’s confidence, develop social skills, build resilience, and promote mental health and wellbeing

Welfare and Employment Support Activities providing welfare benefits and employment-related advice to disadvantaged individuals and families experiencing poverty, aiming to:

  • Prevent or alleviate poverty through increased income or provision of food and essentials
  • Improve living standards of the most disadvantaged
  • Help individuals manage benefits claims and reduce future sanctions or problems
  • Overcome barriers limiting employability

Who Can Apply

The Fund primarily supports small to medium organisations with an annual income of no more than £250,000, though larger organisations may be considered.

Applicants must:

  • Be located in areas of high deprivation
  • Demonstrate experience in delivering relevant support services
  • Provide examples of successful outcomes already achieved
  • Indicate whether funding is needed to maintain existing services or meet new/increased demand

Disadvantaged Communities

This includes communities affected by poverty, unemployment, homelessness, asylum seeker/refugee status, disability, and people with learning disabilities.
