Community Foundation: REEDS Grassroots Fund

Reeds Grassroots Fund supports projects in Tyne and Wear and Northumberland that aim to improve mental health, and tackle disadvantage and inequalities that limit life chances, especially for children and for disadvantaged communities.

Priority activities

Grants of up to £3,000 will be made to support the following priority activities:

  • Activities which focus on improved mental health for children, young people and disadvantaged adults.
  • Activities which build children’s confidence, help develop social skills, build resilience, and promote mental health and wellbeing.

Welfare benefits and employment-related advice and support activities to disadvantaged individuals and families in poverty and in order to achieve one or more of the following:

  • Preventing or alleviating poverty through increased income or through the provision of food or other essentials
  • Improved living standards of the most disadvantaged
  • Increasing individuals’ ability to manage their benefits claims to reduce the likelihood of future sanctions/problems
  • Overcoming barriers or obstacles that limit user employability

Other considerations

Applicants will need to be located in areas of high deprivation, and to demonstrate that they have experience in delivering these kinds of support, with examples of successful outcomes already achieved.

Please also indicate if support is required to maintain existing services or for additional resources to meet new or increased demand.

Applications are invited from mainly small to medium (income of no more than £250,000 per annum) organisations but those with a larger income may be considered.

Examples of disadvantaged communities include those affected by poverty, unemployment, homelessness, asylum seeker/refugee status, disability, and people with learning disabilities.
