Strengthen your organisation’s governance with free online training

Good governance is at the heart of every strong organisation. To support local charities and community groups, VODA offers a range of free, on-demand training sessions via our Elements Portal. Available 24/7, these courses are designed to help trustees and leaders build the knowledge and confidence they need to guide their organisations effectively.

Here are three courses you can access right now:

  • An Introduction to the Roles of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer
This beginner-friendly course explores the responsibilities of key officer roles, including Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Patron and President. It also provides a useful overview of the trustee role in general and guidance on eligibility to serve.

  • Getting to Grips with Your Governing Document
Every organisation needs a clear understanding of its governing document. This session covers essential terminology, key content, and why these documents matter. It’s ideal whether you are creating a new document or reviewing an existing one.

  • An Introduction to Setting Up a Charity
Led by VODA’s Governance Advisor, Rebecca Williams, this course explains the process of starting a charity in the UK. You’ll learn how to decide if charitable status is right for you and the key steps involved in registration.

These courses are free to access through the Elements Portal. For further governance advice and support, please contact our Core Services Team on 0191 643 2626 or email development@voda.org.uk.
