Grant Research and Writing

Grant Research and Writing

Team Kenya is a small, highly effective, and ambitious CIO working with women and girls in Ndhiwa, Western Kenya. We are looking for a volunteer to help us with grant research and writing applications for funding. A successful grant application is the result of a combination of thorough research, an excellent proposal, and a well-matched funding source. A grant writer will research prospective funders and find an organization that would be interested in funding any of the projects we support in Kenya, or some of our core UK costs and activities. The preliminary proposal research should be thorough to ensure our resources are used effectively in applying for relevant funding applications. Every grant proposal is tailored to each funding organization prior to submission. This position requires someone who has excellent research, writing, and communication skills, is self-motivated, reliable, organized, thorough and timely. Our grant writing volunteer will develop an in-depth understanding of Team Kenya’s work and the projects we support to help determine which grants will be suitable for us, and to write accurate and convincing applications concerning our work. Responsibilities will include:

- Identifying key funders

- Researching our eligibility for specific grants

- Determining likelihood of success in order to prioritise applications and create a ‘grants pipeline’

- Ensure no key submission deadlines are missed

- Write well-written and convincing applications for funding

- Keep up to date with administration

- Communicate with funders as required

- Ensure all reporting deadlines are adhered to

Not only will you be able to support Team Kenya to raise vital funds for our programmes, you will also be part of a wider agenda to amplify the voice of girls and women globally and raise awareness. To achieve our goals we rely on the amazing support of the team of volunteers that work with us. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation and without them we would not be able to impact the lives of hundreds of girls and women in Ndhiwa.

About Team Kenya

Team Kenya is a small UK charity working in partnership with a Kenyan NGO, to empower communities to achieve sustainable development, gender equality and the alleviation of poverty.

Our Vision and Mission
Our vision is for every girl in Kenya to have an equal chance to achieve her own potential and be free from poverty.

Our mission is to involve entire communities in gender equality, so that girls and women in rural Kenya can create their own bright futures.

What are we all about?
- Women and girls in rural Kenyan communities are held back by poverty and gender inequality.
- We work with these communities to create a level playing field for girls and boys, where all young people have the same opportunities for education and employment.
- We involve all members of the communities we support to ensure girls have the best possible chance at success. We provide mothers with loans and training and hold community events where we promote gender equality.
- We have witnessed that with education and support, girls in these communities can break the cycle of poverty and transform their lives.
- We remove the barriers to girls education by supporting them with scholarships, counselling, training and confidence building programmes.
- There are no quick-fix solutions to poverty and gender inequality in the communities we support. - -We partner with local organisations to achieve long-term, sustainable change.

Our roots in supporting rural communities in Kenya go back almost 20 years, so we really understand the needs of the people we work with.
- We don't patronise or pity the people we help. Instead, we empower them and offer them the support they need to do amazing things with their lives
- We are a small charity that works in a simple and effective way. Over 90% of your donation will go directly to the grassroots projects we support in rural communities in Kenya.
