Nightstop Volunteer Host

Nightstop Volunteer Host

Nightstop North East offers people who are homeless and disadvantaged the opportunity to fulfil their potential and move towards an independent and positive future. We do this by managing a range of accommodation services for young people who are homeless across the UK whilst also providing resettlement, pre-employment and progression activities as well as other support services for those we work with.

Service description

Nightstop prevents homelessness through community hosting. It helps people who are in immediate housing crisis by providing safe accommodation in the homes of vetted and trained volunteers called ‘hosts’. The accommodation is provided one night at a time initially, but is reviewed on a night by night basis. Whilst the guest is staying with the host longer term appropriate accommodation is sought.

Main Tasks

• To provide clean, safe, overnight accommodation to the guest.

• To provide an evening meal, breakfast and a packed lunch for the guest using the accommodation.

• To liaise with the Nightstop service team regarding their availability and to provide regular feedback after every placement.

• To attend initial training programme prior to undertaking role and attend periodic training during the course of the role.

• To attend training and support sessions where appropriate.

• To adhere to the terms of Nightstop North East policies currently in force and its Code of Practice.

• To contribute positively to the continuous development of the service/team.

• To observe clear professional boundaries in our relations with the guests we work with.

Benefits to the Volunteer:

• The volunteer host will be offered £15 per night when a guest stays with them, for out-of-pocket expenses.

• While volunteering with Nightstop, volunteers have full liability insurance cover.

• There are appreciation events to recognise the important contribution that volunteers make.
