Volunteer Story: Sadiq Rehan

Sadiq Rehan VODA Volunteer is standing in front of a brick building taking a selfie. He is wearing a blue/grey coat and has a backpack on. He is smiling.

Volunteer, Sadiq Rehan, has volunteered with VODA’s UKSPF social action project ‘Welcome to North Tyneside’. He is a skilled photographer and video editor, and has made a number of videos showcasing local community organisations, such as this lovely video featuring Springfield Community Centre.

Sadiq also photographed the project trips, supporting the project with his voluntary work and was involved in the creation of the Welcome to North Tyneside booklet, a guide for new visitors to the area.

Sadiq is a student at South Tyneside College studying for an HNC in Computing, and working part-time. He moved to South Shields from Frimley, Surrey, in September 2024, where he used to work. He has also been involved in volunteer work, including participating in fundraising walks to support the families of Army veterans.

After moving to South Shields, he started volunteering at Action Station in South Shields, working in the IT suite to help older people gain hands-on experience using different mobile apps and online shopping platforms. He also guided them on online secure methods of payment and how to recognise red flags in phishing scams.

Sadiq says, “I believe in the significance of supporting and strengthening communities. Seeing how small acts of kindness can significantly impact someone’s life inspires me to contribute my time and effort. Volunteering also helps to grow personally by developing communication skills and responsibility. Being able to make a positive difference, no matter how small, gives me a strong sense of fulfilment.”

Look out for more of Sadiq’s videos in the online ‘Welcome to North Tyneside’ playlist, coming soon. Subscribe to the VODA YouTube channel to keep up to date.
