The Earsdon and Wellfield Community Centre is a warm and welcoming community resource centre based in what was once the old village school. Many of their users come from the Earsdon and Wellfield community with others users coming from nearby Shiremoor, Blyth, New York and East and West Holywell.
Sector Connector has worked with the centre to help support them in a number of ways.
Combating loneliness
Having already attended several of the Sector Connector workshops delivered by local businesses and found the learning to be really useful, Earsdon and Wellfield took up the offer of a donated laptop from NRG. This was part of a larger donation from NRG of redundant laptops that were made available to the voluntary sector.
Earsdon and Wellfield used this donated laptop to initiate a project to combat loneliness in the local community. The laptop enabled the Centre to provide free computer access for senior residents so that they could communicate with their families. Two of the residents using the laptop had not seen their siblings for more than eight years, but thanks to the donated laptop were able to reconnect with them.
Office Equipment
Earsdon and Wellfield also benefitted from the donation of office equipment by Insure the Box, including whiteboards, TV and desk fans.
Architectural Advice
When the Centre needed advice about conversion of a derelict building to create office space, Sector Connector was able to successfully broker support from Blake Hopkins Architects to help make the vision a reality.
