Store volunteer
Background Information
The Cedarwood Trust has opportunities for volunteers in its new Subscription Supermarket, called NOURISH.
NOURISH is not a food bank, nor is it a normal food shop. It's a 'Food Membership Scheme' where, once you're a member (£1 to join, only one member per household, no other restrictions), for a £4 weekly subscription you can get food / goods that have a value of over £15. You can only shop once a week, but you don't have to shop every week.
Purpose
We are seeking volunteers to help in the shop and the warehouse at Cedarwood Trust. The Nourish Store is open 11:00-13:00 Mon-Thurs with volunteer shifts being 10am to 2pm. You don't have to volunteer every day. Your duties would rotate between serving in the shop and maintaining stock levels, so your day would be quite varied. You'll be part of a busy, bustling community centre, and helping out in a new initiative that will bring fair access to food to all.
Main Tasks and Activities
After a quick team meeting, and ensuring everything is ready for the store opening at 11am. Volunteers would usually process any membership applications, answer any questions from customers, serve the customers, handle cash, make sure that shelves are kept full, and ensure that the shop is kept, clean safe and tidy. Once the store is closed at 2p.m. then restocking in preparation for the next day takes place.
Benefits
Training and development and ongoing mentoring and support, ensures that you are fully prepared for the role. You’ll get the chance to learn customer service skills, logistics, and be part of a team.
