Trustees
We are recruiting for two voluntary positions to join our Board of Trustees: Treasurer and Trustee.
As Treasurer, you would be the financial steward of our charity, ensuring that resources are managed efficiently and transparently. Your expertise in finance, budgeting, and financial planning would be crucial in maintaining the sustainability of our operations and supporting the growth of our initiatives. We are looking for someone with a professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA). You’ll need proven experience in a similar role, preferably in the not-for-profit sector, and you’ll have a sound knowledge of the financial regulations and reporting requirements for charitable organisations, as well as analytical and strategic planning skills. The role will involve working with RyB’s finance manager, who is responsible for the day-to-day finances of the charity, and of course you’ll have an ability to communicate your work effectively to all your fellow trustees and stakeholders.
If you’d prefer a more general role, we are also looking for a new Trustee. As a Trustee you’d play a key role in setting our direction and overseeing our work, contributing to our Board meetings on a diverse range of topics.
Our Board of Trustees meets once every two months on a Thursday evening in Byker, and also organizes sub-meetings and special projects in between. We also encourage trustees to volunteer in our bike shops, workshops or outreach activities so they can get to know the charity well.

Our organisation is a charity currently based in Byker and Chester le Street. We rely on volunteers to help us deliver our mission of saving bikes from landfill and improving peoples lives through cycling. Its a great place to meet like minded individuals and gain new skills. Opportunities to get involved with are: salvage mechanics, bike building, shop customer service, van driving, social media content creator, policy and HR support and trustees.
What skills do I need?
You’ll have the skills needed to help us meet our objectives as a charity, but previous experience as a trustee is not essential. Your passion for cycling, community development and for the environment will enrich our decision-making process and would help us make a lasting impact in the north-east.
