GREAT COMMUNITY GARDEN CRAWL VOLUNTEERS WANTED

GREAT COMMUNITY GARDEN CRAWL VOLUNTEERS WANTED

“Grow & Eat” is a collaborative project run by North Tyneside VODA and supported by Active North Tyneside and Public Health. The aim of the project is to help communities in North Tyneside make efficient use of their space to grow food and improve their health and wellbeing.

One element of the Grow & Eat project is the facilitation of a Garden Network of North Tyneside, which will provide knowledge and resource-sharing opportunities to its members, as well as amplify the voice of community groups and gardens in the area.

As the Garden Network of North Tyneside is still very new, for the first time this year some of the members have decided to put on an open garden day event, where the public will have the chance to visit the participating gardens, get involved in family-friendly activities and find out more about what the gardens do.

To support on the day, the Grow & Eat project is looking to recruit four (4) volunteers, to be stationed on their own or in a pair, for the duration of the event at one of the gardens and help with the increased flow of visitors. Typical duties on the day will include:

· Welcoming visitors

· Giving them information about facilities and refreshments

· Informing them about the activities that happen in the garden

· Being available for help and support to visitors and garden staff and volunteers alike

The event will take place on Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th of July, from 10 am to 3 pm, but the volunteers don’t need to be available on both days. Specific day will be subject to garden’s opening day.

You will be a VODA volunteer, so you will be covered by VODA’s policies, including Volunteer policy, Health & Safety, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion policy. However, if, after the event, you wish to carry on volunteering at the garden or site you’ve been stationed at, then you can discuss this with the respective gardens.
