Help Me Be Digital Volunteer
The Help Me Be Digital project at VODA aims to help residents build their digital skills and confidence to help them live healthier and happier lives.
Help Me Be Digital Volunteers will be visiting North Tyneside residents in their homes providing one-to-one basic digital support and helping people to use their own smart devices like laptops, tablets and phones. Help Me Be Digital will also offer drop-in sessions across North Tyneside at venues like GP surgeries, shopping centres or local events.
A few examples of what Help Me Be Digital aims to do:
Get people online
Help people book a GP appointment via the NHS App
Show people how to use FaceTime/Skype/Zoom
Show people how to set up a social media account
Show people how to do a food shop online
Show people how to pay a bill online
Help people stay safe online
Help people set up an email account
Help people download apps on their smartphone
Help people find local information, advice and guidance online
About North Tyneside VODA
North Tyneside VODA supports volunteers and voluntary and community sector organisations across the borough of North Tyneside. We provide support, advice on training on a range of topics including starting and setting up a group, governance issues, charity law, funding, finance, involving volunteers and more.
What skills do I need?
Volunteers should be able to
Feel confident explaining basic digital and technical skills
Be confident using the internet, laptops, computers and smartphones
Be respectful, patient and supportive
Understand and feel confident using digital terminology
Be trusted with secure information and data
Be comfortable initiating friendly conversations with residents - and have a laugh!
Help run small digital drop-in sessions for residents
Make their own way to homes in North Tyneside for one-to-one support sessions
Refer to VODA for signposting if a resident needs support in other areas
Use the Volunteero app to keep in touch with the team
Report back after sessions to keep the team up to date
